VoIP – Telephone Systems

Voice over IP (VoIP) means that the telephones use a broadband line to carry the voice as “IP packets”, in a similar way to how data is carried to and from a PC or MAC. “Hosted” VoIP means that there is no on-site equipment to worry about (unlike a traditional PBX). The intelligence of the system is housed in a secure data centre.

Hosted VoIP is the modern way to provide Businesses with all the features that you would expect to find in a large office, but at a small office price. It also gives Businesses other benefits not available with traditional telephone systems.

“Hermes” is the Hosted VoIP system from EOS Communications, based upon proven IP technology and exclusively designed for Businesses. It uses the global industry standard protocol (SIP) to carry the voice and we configure the system so that it does not use the public internet (unlike Skype). Hermes is truly a 21st Century telephony system designed for Business, which provides telephone calls of "Carrier Class" quality & reliability.

It is particularly appropriate for Businesses that operate between several locations (e.g. main office, sub-offices and home workers) and of course the call charges are inherently low.

Regulated by Ofcom, we are authorised to transfer and manage customer lines and services, as well as offering low cost call rates. What are the benefits to you?
25%+ price reduction on line rentals
One Bill for calls and line rental

…and most of all, rather than waiting 20 minutes on hold to BT, only to find that you are through to the wrong department, your call will be answered by a friendly member of staff!

ADSL

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is our most popular Internet broadband service and offers great performance at a sensible price. This is available in three variants: ADSL (2Mb/s), ADSL Max (up to 8Mb/s) and ADSL 2+ (up to 24Mb/s). For businesses users, ADSL has enormous speed advantages over traditional dial-up connections. There are no on-line charges and standard analogue voice and fax telephone calls can be made from the same telephone line whilst using the Internet.

ADSL can be quickly connected to almost every computing environment from complex networks to stand alone PCs and Apple MACs.

Depending on the service chosen and the distance from the exchange, ADSL is available at download speeds of up to 24Mbps and upload speeds of up to 1.3Mb/s.

SDSL

SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is an EOS Communications premium broadband service. SDSL provides the same speed in both directions (upload and download), with options at 0.5Mb/s, 1.0Mb/s and 2.0Mb/s.

SDSL is an ideal solution for more demanding business use, allowing a host of services and functionalities to run in the most effective way. Services such as Virtual Private Networks (VPN), FTP and VoIP can run concurrently with general web surfing and sending and receiving emails.

Leased Lines

For the most demanding situations, a leased line offers the ultimate in speed in both directions. It is ideal for larger Businesses, or situations where big graphics files are regularly sent and received. Speeds of typically 2Mb/s to 10Mb/s are used most commonly with the benefit of zero contention (i.e. you are not sharing the line with another company).

Cabling

Structured Cabling enables you to connect all of your data, voice and video into a single, easy to manage, network cabling infrastructure. Once you've had structured cabling installed, you will wonder how you have managed all this time without it!

There are different standards for copper and fibre to consider, with varying degrees of price and performance. More commonly we provide copper to the desk (CAT5e & CAT6), with fibre backbones to multiple wiring racks for larger networks. We also offer fibre to the desk & workgroup solutions that offer the greatest performance hence long term usability for your investment.

We offer a free site survey because every installation is different and the survey allows us to see your premises, assess cable routes and understand your requirements.

So, what does it take to install it? Using an office floor plan, you need to determine where all your telephones, fax machines, PCs and Printers need to be installed and working. The next step is to choose a location in your building that can house the necessary hardware; this is generally termed as a communications room or area.

A single cable can now be run to each point that was originally identified on the office floor plan. Depending on the size of your building and the number of staff, a large number of cables may need to be run which means that cable trunking will almost certainly be required.

Once all the cables have been installed they need to be terminated both at the patch panel and at the RJ45 sockets around your building. Each socket is labelled with its own personal number and its corresponding patch panel outlet is marked with the same number in the patch cabinet.

Any future changes or relocations of staffing positions can now be easily managed and you are in full control of your communications networking infrastructure.

This system of cabling allows you to benefit from high speed data transmission on an integrated and flexible network. It will give you the platform necessary for both you're telephony and data communications now and in the future.
